Publish to Shopify
Connect your Shopify store, keep products in sync, and publish images back to Shopify safely, with a check for changes made in Shopify meanwhile.
Connect a Shopify store to bring its products into Studio, fix them, and send the results back. Studio keeps up with changes in Shopify on its own. Publishing back to Shopify happens only when someone with the right to publish asks for it.
Who can use this:
| Task | Who |
|---|---|
| Connect, reconnect or disconnect a store | Owner, Admin |
| See the Shopify settings | Owner, Admin, Editor, Viewer |
| Import products from Shopify | Owner, Admin |
| Publish images and product changes to Shopify | Owner, Admin, Editor |
A role without the right to publish can still edit Shopify products in Studio. The changes stay in Studio and the product page says Your role can't publish changes to Shopify.
Connect your store
A store connects when you install the Sirv AI Studio app from the Shopify App Store.
- Go to Settings > Shopify and select Connect Shopify.
- Select Add to Shopify. The Shopify App Store opens.
- Install the app and approve the access Shopify asks for.
The store connects during the install. If Studio cannot tell which store to connect, open Studio from your Shopify admin instead. For the app inside Shopify, see Use Studio inside Shopify.
Once connected, the page shows the store as Connected. It also shows:
- Store language: the store's main language. Studio sends Shopify the copy in your workspace's primary language.
- Studio in Shopify admin: select Link my Shopify login to open Studio from the Shopify admin with your Shopify login.
The store shows up in Settings > Channels. If you picked Shopify on Today before you connected, the first store keeps that channel and its checks. A second store gets its own channel.
Reconnect or disconnect
If Shopify access runs out or is taken away, the page shows Connection Expired. Select Reconnect, then Check Again.
To remove the store, select Disconnect and confirm.
Import your Shopify products
- Go to Settings > Shopify.
- Under Products, select Import products.
- Confirm with Import.
Studio brings in new and changed products with their images and variants. The import runs in the background, so you can leave the page. To stop it, select Stop import. The page shows the last import: how many products came in, how many could not be saved, and how many images were imported or already existed.
How Studio stays in sync
After the import, Studio follows changes in Shopify on its own. When a product is created, changed or deleted in Shopify, Studio updates its copy: the name, description, status, product type, brand, tags, images, image order and alt text.
Some changes in Studio are kept even when Shopify sends an update:
- A change you made in Studio that has not gone to Shopify yet is not overwritten.
- If you change an image's role or position in Studio, later Shopify updates keep your choice.
- Images you added in Studio stay.
Studio does not merge changes made on both sides. If both change the same image, the two disagree until someone publishes again.
Publish images to Shopify
You can send images to Shopify from several places. Each one creates a publish plan: a list of the changes, approved by the person who sends it. If a publish is sent twice, Shopify does not get the same change twice.
From the library
- Select images in the library, or open an image.
- Select Push to Shopify. The dialog lists the images that are linked to a Shopify product. Images with no linked Shopify product are listed apart and cannot go.
- Under Upload strategy, choose:
- Add to existing: add the image to the product's images.
- Replace all: delete all the product's current images in Shopify and use these. The dialog warns you first.
- Turn on Set as featured image to make the image the product's main image.
- Select Push with the number of images.
When it is done, the dialog shows how many images were published, queued or failed.
Update one image to a new version
When you improve an image that is already live, you can swap just that image in the store.
- Open the image. In the Product section, each channel shows what it has now, such as Live: v2, since a date.
- When the current version is approved and passes the channel's checks, select Update to the new version, for example Update to v3.
Studio replaces that one image in Shopify and leaves the others alone. If the version is still in review, the row says so instead of showing the button.
Publish every ready product
On Today, select Publish to Shopify. The dialog says how many products will get their main image as the featured image in Shopify, and which are left out because they have no image Studio can send, no link to the store, or already have this image. One publish takes a set number of products; publish again for the rest. Follow the progress under Running now.
You can also select Publish ready products now on the Shopify channel page. See Channels.
When Shopify changed the product
Someone may edit a product in Shopify after Studio last synced it. Before Studio publishes over it, the dialog says Shopify changed this product since import. It shows when Shopify last changed the product and when Studio last synced it.
- Select Cancel to stop, then check the product in Shopify.
- Select Publish anyway only if you want Studio to replace the current Shopify version.
See what published
Publishing runs in the background. Results show:
- In the Push to Shopify dialog: images published, queued and failed.
- On the image: the version each store shows now.
- On the Shopify channel page under Activity and errors: each run with its Per-product results.
In the Shopify admin app, the Review page lists publish results, retries failed ones and can restore an original photo. See Use Studio inside Shopify.
Publish from the API and workflows
A workflow can end with a publish step, and the API and MCP tools can publish too. API keys and MCP tools can only add images. Replacing or deleting images in Shopify needs a person. See Workflows and API.
