Import and export products

Bring products in from a CSV, Excel or XML file, a link or pasted text, map the columns, and export your catalogue as CSV.

Import a spreadsheet to create and update many products at once, with their images, attributes, families and translations. Export the catalogue, a view or a selection as CSV when you need it elsewhere.

Who can use this:

Task Who
Import products Owner, Admin, Editor
Import the images in the file into the library People who can also upload assets
Add new content languages during an import Owner, Admin
Export products as CSV Everyone who can see the product list

Imports count toward your plan's product limit: Free 1,000, Core 10,000, Growth 100,000, Enterprise custom. If an import reaches the limit, it stops with Product limit reached. Contact an owner or admin to review your plan.

To bring in a Shopify catalogue, use Settings > Shopify instead. See Shopify.

Start an import

  1. Go to Products > All products and select Import. The Import products panel opens.
  2. Add your data in one of three ways:
    • Drop a file on Drop a file here, or click to browse. Studio reads .csv, .tsv, .xlsx and .xml. For Excel, Studio reads the first sheet only.
    • Under or import from URL, paste a link to a file. Studio downloads it. The file can be up to 50 MB.
    • Under or paste CSV, paste the rows.
  3. Select Map columns.

Studio also reads SAP Commerce ImpEx files and Google Shopping XML feeds.

Your file needs at least a SKU column and a name column. Other columns Studio knows are Description, Brand, Product Type, Category, Tags, Image URL, Status, External ID, Price, Sale Price, Product URL, EAN, Family and Family label.

You can also start an import from the search box: type "Import products". On a new workspace, the Today page has a box where you can paste a link or drop a file.

Map the columns

Studio matches your headers to its fields. It knows common header names in several forms, for example item_number or mpn for SKU, and variant_group for Family.

The mapping step has four groups:

  • Product fields: the columns matched to Studio fields. SKU and Name are required.
  • More images: other columns where every filled cell is an image address.
  • Product attributes: columns matched to attributes you already have. A header that matches an attribute's key or label goes there on its own.
  • Unmapped columns: everything else.

Drag a column to move it. Use Auto-map all to let Studio match again, or Unmap all to start from nothing. Drop a column on Drop a column here to create a custom field to keep it as a custom field.

Columns left in Unmapped columns are not imported.

Turn extra columns into attributes

Create attributes for the other columns is on by default. Studio creates one attribute for each extra column and guesses its type: text, number, yes/no, rich text or JSON. Empty columns are skipped. Columns that copy another column stay custom fields. Turn the option off to keep all extra columns as custom fields. The new attributes are created when the import starts.

Import translations

When headers carry a language mark, Studio offers Languages in this sheet. A mark is a language code or name at the start or end of the header, such as NL_Beschrijving, Kleur fr or description_de. Studio recognises Dutch, French, German, English, Spanish, Italian and Polish.

  1. If the workspace has no primary language yet, choose the Main language: the language of columns with no mark. Studio guesses it from the description and name columns.
  2. Tick the languages to add and select Add languages.

Studio then adds those languages to the workspace. Each marked column becomes a translation of its field, and columns that differ only by language become one translatable attribute. Image columns with a language mark give their images that language. See Write copy in other languages.

Adding languages needs an Owner or Admin. Others see a message asking them to add the languages in Settings > General first.

Check the preview

The preview step shows the first 20 products and lists problems:

  • Errors (rows skipped): rows that cannot be imported, such as a missing SKU.
  • Warnings (rows still imported): rows that import with a change, such as an invalid EAN that is left empty.

If the same SKU appears twice in the file, the last row wins. Inside one file, SKUs match without regard to upper and lower case.

Two options decide what happens:

  • Update existing products: on by default. Products whose SKU already exists are updated. Turn it off to skip them.
  • Import images to asset library: on when an image column is mapped and you can upload assets. Studio downloads each image address into the library and links it to the product. A cell can hold several addresses. Choose a Path template for the folders, such as by SKU, by brand or by category.

Each product can have up to 50 images and 50 tags. Tags split on commas or semicolons, so you can re-import a Studio export.

Families from the file

Map a column to Family to group versions of a product, and a column to Family label for what tells each one apart, such as its colour. A family is created when two or more products in the import share the family name. A single product only joins a family that already exists. See Families and variants.

Run the import

Select the import button. It shows the counts, such as Import 120 products, or Import 120 products & 480 images when images are on. The import runs on the server.

  • You can close the panel. The import goes on, and the status bar at the bottom of every page shows its progress with Show import.
  • To stop it, select Cancel import.
  • Before the import starts, closing the panel asks Discard import?.

When it finishes, the panel shows how many products were created and updated, how many duplicates were skipped, and how many images were imported or failed.

Fix failed images

If some images could not be downloaded, open Fix failed images:

  • Retry failed images tries the downloads again.
  • Export failed URLs CSV downloads failed-product-image-urls.csv with the addresses that failed.

Export products as CSV

  1. Go to Products > All products. To export only some products, select them first.
  2. Select Export. The Export products dialog opens.
  3. Choose the scope:
    • Selected products only: the products you selected.
    • Export all: every product, with all columns and every attribute.
    • Current view only: the products and columns in the view on screen.
  4. If the workspace has more than one content language, choose a Language. Another language exports only its own copy and adds a Missing translations column.
  5. Select Export.

Studio downloads a comma-separated CSV file named after the scope and the date, for example products-all-products-2026-10-31.csv. The supplier column is empty if you cannot manage suppliers.

To export a file in the format of a marketplace, use a channel package instead. See Marketplaces and feeds.
