Image editor

Crop, rotate, erase, mask and adjust images, use AI edits and quick actions, check an image against a spec and save it as a new version.

The image editor makes quick changes to a product photo without leaving Studio. You can crop, rotate, erase objects, mask areas, adjust colour, run AI edits and check the result against a channel's requirements. When you save, Studio keeps the original as an earlier version.

Who can use this: you need the assets:write permission (Owner, Admin, Editor, Uploader). AI edits also need tools:basic and cost credits. The editor works on PNG, JPEG and WebP images. It does not open animated images or PSD and TIFF masters.

Open the editor

Open an image in the library and select Edit, or press E. The editor opens in place. Select Expand editor for more room, or Open saved draft to open the editor on its own page.

Choose a tool

Each tool has a key. The keys work when no text field has focus.

Key Tool What it does
V Transform Rotate left or right, flip, set an exact angle, resize the canvas, or Extend with AI to add more background around the image.
C Crop Crop freely or to 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 3:4 or 9:16. Type exact sizes if you need them. Select Apply crop.
M Mask Select an area with a rectangle, lasso, polygon or brush. Invert, feather, expand or contract the edge. Clear mask starts again.
E Erase Paint over an object, then select Erase selected. AI fills the area.
A AI Remove the background or upscale with one click, or describe a change.
S Spec Check the image against a channel's or supplier's requirements.
H History Go back to any earlier step.
D Adjust Change exposure, contrast, temperature, tint and saturation. Set the output format, quality and background colour.

Layers lists the image and each added layer. You can show, hide, lock, duplicate, reorder and delete layers, and change their opacity.

Press ⌘ Z (Mac) or Ctrl Z to undo, and ⌘ Y or ⌘ Shift Z to redo. Hold Space and drag to move around the image.

Edit with AI

The AI tool has quick actions and a prompt bar. Each button shows its price before you run it.

  • AI quick actions: Remove background, Upscale 2x and Upscale 4x.
  • Describe a change: type what you want, for example "put it on a marble surface". Choose a Model, then select Generate. The price depends on the model.
Action Credits from
Remove background 1
Upscale 2x, Upscale 4x 1
Erase selected 3
Extend with AI 2

Large images can cost more.

Each AI run is paid when it runs. Discarding a result does not return the credits. See Credits.

Check the image against a spec

Select Spec or press S. Submission spec checks measured rules, such as size and background, as you edit. These checks are free.

  • Check against spec runs the full check.
  • Fix to spec runs the fixes the image needs. The button shows the most it can cost.

Go back a step

Every edit adds a step to History. Select a step to go back to it. A new edit then removes the steps after it. Restore original goes back to the image you started with.

Save your work

Select Save as version (or Save) and choose how to keep the result in Save this edit:

  • Save as version: the file gets a new version. Earlier versions stay. See Versions and comments.
  • Save as a new asset: saves a new file beside the original.
  • Use in followed by the product name: puts the image in the product's slot. It waits in review first.
  • Download image: saves the result to your computer only.

You can also press ⌘ S to save.

Repeat the edit on more products

After you send an image to review with Use in, Studio offers Same edit for more products. It repeats your steps on the main images of other products that fail the same spec, up to 50 products at a time.

Studio repeats crop around the product, rotate, flip, remove background and upscale. It does not repeat hand-drawn crops, erasing or prompt edits. If every step is free, it says Every step is free. No model runs. Otherwise it shows the cost first.

Recover unsaved edits

Studio saves your work as you go: Saved locally or Saved online. If you close the editor before you save, it asks Recover your unsaved edits? the next time you open that image.

  • Recover draft brings back your edits.
  • Not now opens the image without them and keeps the draft.
  • Discard draft deletes the draft.
